Homeless Veterans Awareness Campaign Recognized with Award to A Safe Haven by the Publicity Club of Chicago

“Helping Homeless Veterans Return Home” receives Silver Trumpet in Issues Management

CHICAGO – Today, A Safe Haven received the Silver Trumpet in Issues Management from the Publicity Club of Chicago for its awareness and outreach campaign, “Helping Homeless Veterans Return Home.”

The ceremony was held at the famous Palmer House Hilton Hotel, and was emceed by Valerie Warner and Ryan Chiaverini, co-hosts of ABC 7 Chicago’s popular morning talk and entertainment show, “Windy City LIVE.”

A Safe Haven began this campaign in order to create awareness around issues facing homeless veterans, and as an outreach initiative. By the end of the campaign, A Safe Haven increased the number of veterans served in one year to over 500 in 2011.

The event featured Rob Johnson, CBS 2 Chicago evening news anchor, as the Celebrity Emcee for the evening! Since joining CBS 2 Chicago in August of 2006 Rob has covered many major news events during his career including many of the Presidential Campaigns over the last 25 years. Rob has won multiple Emmy Awards and has received numerous awards from Associated Press, Chicago Headline Club and Belle Center of Chicago to name just a few. On September 22, 2011, Governor Pat Quinn proclaimed it ‘Rob Johnson Day” in Illinois, as recognition for his advocacy for people with disabilities.

May 3, 2014, Chicago, IL – Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMFest 6) will feature two short films, entitled ‘Raggedy Man’, a light hearted documentary on homelessness & ‘DREAM’ 2013 Music Revolution to End Homelessness, featuring A Safe Haven Foundation, on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m, at the Gorilla Tango Theatre in Bucktown. Immediately following the films will be a multi-media panel discussion featuring Neli Vazquez Rowland, film producers, artists and moderated by Music Revolution to End Homelessness, co-producer and founder of Music4Good Productions, Lynn Orman Weiss. A Safe Haven short film featuring A Safe Haven’s Annual 5k RUN! To End Homelessness includes a testimonial based on a personal, powerful and transformative story of homelessness, family reunification, forgiveness, second chances and love. “How does music affect the human spirit? July 9, 2013, Chicago, Ill.– A Safe Haven Foundation is proud to announce at today’s press conference the line up of Chicago’s Top GRAMMY® and Billboard artists and a next generation of emerging artists to perform live at the 3rd Annual 5k RUN! To End Homelessness LIVE AID Concert on Sunday, July 14. Race registration and music will begin at 6:30 am at Chicago’s Douglas Park, located at 1225 S. California Ave. The concert and FUN RUN for kids (pre-registration required) are both free to the public.
